Idiom (1995)

My first solo exhibition in Copenhagen was in a small project space called EatMe in 1995. It was in a way my last project working directly with film in a classical sense. In an attempt to marry the film medium and contemporary art I made two short portraits of two very strong men making some kind of martial art. The men not only represented toxic masculinity but also two threatening positions depending form which side you observed them. The chanting Muslim threatened the Danish nationalist who identified him as the biggest threat to their identity and the other one being the neo-Nazi, the biggest threat for any one that is not a Nazi frankly. Unfortunately the loop worked poorly on the opening night and I spent most of the evening trying to repair the film projection. A friend said I should just make it into a video. I followed her advise and never did any celluloid film again. The two actors are Omar Shargawi and Lars Bjarke
